Scripture Comics Translation Workshop in the Solomon Islands
Translation Workshop
Participants at the Scripture Comics Translation Workshop in the Solomon Islands
UBS Translation Consultants, Dr Alpheaus Zobule and Dr Carl Gross have been running Scripture Comic Workshops in the Solomon Islands this year. The most recent workshop was one for the Comics Checking held in Honiara on October 19-23, 2009. This workshop was a follow-up of the one held in May this year. The transla¬tion teams that attended the May Comics Workshop came back with their translations of the Abraham comic. The pri¬mary objective of this October workshop was to do consult¬ant checking on the transla¬tions of the comic. No lectures were done. Each day, after the devotion, the two gentle¬men went straight to checking the translations. A few of the teams had their back transla¬tions ready on the first day, and so Carl and Alpheaus were able to start checking their work. The two translation offic¬ers worked in partnership with two other SITAG advisors, John Bruner and Paul Unger, to check the comics. By the end of the week the checking team mem¬bers were able to check the Abraham comic translation of the following transla¬tion teams: Zabana, Bilua, Simbo, Lengo, Ulawa, Gao, Gela, Roviana, and Arosi. According to Alpheaus, “It has been fun checking the comic translations. The biggest challenge however was trying to fit the texts in the balloons.”
